Review of international policies and practices related to young people, alcohol, marketing and sports

An international review of polices relating to young people, alcohol, marketing and sports is the main deliverable of Work Package 4 of the FYFA project. The review was led by Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) and support given by the European Alcohol Policy Alliance (Eurocare).

KNVB lifts ban on drinking beer in stands of professional football

The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) wants to lift the ban on drinking alcohol in the stands of professional football stadiums. Currently, that is not permitted. The KNVB recently informed about this decision the Dutch Institute for Alcohol Policy STAP. That while the KNVB last year (2017) completely restrained the use of alcohol along football fields of the amateur competitions.

Finnish football club FC Honka invests in a non-alcoholic hobby environment for children and youth

FC Honka and EHYT -Finnish Association for Substance Abuse Prevention cooperate to prevent alcohol harm among children and young people and to support a healthy and sporty lifestyle.
Sports are one of the most popular forms of youth hobby in Finland. More than a half of the young people under 18 participates in sports club activities. Sports are a good channel to reach people from all age groups and status. In addition to home and school, sports and sports clubs can provide a good platform for health promotion.

The End Alcohol Advertising in Sport campaign calls for alcohol advertising to be phased out of professional sports. This is an initiative by the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education, supported by health organisations across Australia.

Serving of Alcohol at UEFA matches: Official Response from European Healthy Stadia Network

As part of its social responsibility programme, UEFA has committed to promoting healthy and active lifestyles, and works with its associate partner European Healthy Stadia Network CIC (Healthy Stadia) to develop sports stadia as ‘health promoting settings’.
